In short

Start with how to choose (four questions), then the right size (two minutes with a tape measure), then what your country pays. If you already know what you want, our favourites name one winner for every kind of day.

How these guides are written

Every guide starts with the short answer, because most questions have one. Then the reasoning, with the numbers: handle heights, seat heights, weights, widths, the rules of your health system. Where a guide names models, they come from the model pages and are only shown if they are sold in your country's Amazon store. Where a guide touches health – balance, Parkinson's, recovery after surgery – it says what a physiotherapist would say and tells you when to ask one.

Questions women ask us

Which guide should I read first?

If you have never had a rollator: how to choose, then the size guide. If you are replacing one: our favourites, then the model page for your kind of day. If someone else is buying for you: send them the size guide and the insurance guide.

Are the guides written by doctors?

No. They are written by a small team that compares mobility aids the way friends compare handbags, with the manufacturers' data, independent tests and physiotherapists' published advice as sources. Where your health is concerned, we say so and point you to a professional.

Do the guides change by country?

The insurance guide does – it is written separately for each country. The other guides are the same everywhere, with the models filtered to your Amazon store and measurements in centimetres (and inches in the US version).
